Biodiversity Day 2025: Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development
May 22, 2025Today (May 19) in 1995, the National Environment Statute of Uganda was enacted. This statute was a pivotal moment for environmental protection in Uganda, establishing the legal framework for managing and protecting the country’s environment. It also led to the establishment of the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) in December 1995, which became operational.
In 2025, Uganda faces significant environmental challenges, including climate change, deforestation, and pollution.
At Citizens’ Concern Africa (CICOA), we are working with the women and youth in vulnerable communities to practice modern agriculture, conserve the environment, and properly dispose of waste.
However, the government has a duty to strengthen policy and enforcement to put a stop to further degradation of the environment.
