Empowering women, protecting health, and building climate resilience in Bunyoro
June 6, 2025Today, we reflect on the vital state of Uganda’s ecosystems, a rich biodiversity heritage under increasing threat.
Uganda has lost approximately 41.6% of its forest cover over the past century (1921–2021), according to Global Forest Watch. Wetlands, vital to both biodiversity and livelihoods, are vanishing at an alarming 2% to 2.5% annually.
This year’s theme calls on us to recognize biodiversity not just as a resource, but as the foundation of life on Earth.
Now more than ever, we need to restore habitats, manage invasive species, reduce pollution, promote sustainable practices, and raise awareness about the importance of biodiversity.
Let us commit to climate action, support local communities, and promote environmental stewardship — for more sustainable and resilient communities.
