“Journalists are HRDs by the nature of their job! Every time you tell a story that speaks for the voiceless or publish an article that exposes environmental degradation & every time you challenge corporate impunity or government neglect, you’re defending the dignity & rights of communities,” said Mr. Kirenga. Kirenga is the executive director of the National Coalition of Human Rights Defenders Uganda (NCHRD).

The dialogue is part of our activities to empower local media, enhancing community engagement and collaboration to enhance accountability and create a transparent and responsible framework for oil exploration, ensuring that the rights and well-being of affected communities are prioritized and respected.

Mr. Peter Banura Araali, the District Chairperson of Kikuube District, officially opened the Media training.
“The media holds everybody accountable, putting us to the task of explaining why, when, where, who, and what. So, we are here to share ideas, learn, and then we can be able to develop the community together,” our Executive Director, Andrew Mafundo, said in his welcome remarks.
